Introduction to Dissertation: Intimate Notes About Proximity
Through this writing, I explore what intimacy is in a contemporary context. The entanglement between the personal, the private, and the intimate which lead us to connect and/or find out more about our inner world. I start by stating definitions of what intimacy is, followed by a discussion about the terms “self” and “otherness” in relation to unilateral and bilateral intimacy. This analysis is followed by a series of soliloquies, which is to say, inner thoughts and feelings that were developed around this subject of study. In essence, this text explores what intimacy with oneself means, through concepts such as memory, identity, fantasy, virtuality, and vulnerability.
